Speaker: Daniel Ryan, Fisheries Biologist with PA Fish and Boat Commission
Biography: Daniel Ryan is a native Pennsylvanian from Cambria County, where impacts to natural resources as a result of historical coal mining activities were pervasive on the landscape. Mr. Ryan graduated from West Virginia University in 2008, obtaining a Baccalaureate of Science degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Resources. He obtained a Master of Science degree from Purdue University in Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences in 2010, where his research focused on the health of deep-water amphipods populations in the Great
Lakes. Mr. Ryan joined the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) Division of Environmental Services in 2011, participating in the Commission’s Chapter 105 permit review program until 2018. In 2018, Mr. Ryan was selected for the PFBC’s mining program and currently reviews mining activities that propose to impact aquatic resources in the Commonwealth. A brief occupation working in an underground coal mine has aided
his knowledge of the complexities of coal extraction in the Commonwealth.
